Stop Making Cake Halloween 2019

If you could have done anything this past Halloween, what would you have done? While most people most likely would have done something spookier or scarier in the traditional Halloween fashion, there is a large community that would have chosen something specific—Halloween concerts. The very best of places—the pit of a show—is certainly a place that is made better with costumes. If I could have gone to a show for Halloween 2019, I think it would be tied between two different Halloween runs: Lotus or Pigeons Playing Ping Pong.

Lotus played all three of their Halloween shows in Colorado, moving from Aspen to Denver over the course of the three days. On Halloween specifically, Lotus played a tribute to the Flaming Lips with the official theme of "Psychedelic Robot Battle at the Gates of Hell." During this show, Lotus covered multiple favorites from the 2002 quintessential Flaming Lips album "Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots."

Pigeons Playing Ping Pong also had a three day run, however, theirs stretched from Boston on Halloween night through New York and Connecticut on the first and second of November respectfully. Their show, aptly titled "Stop Making Cake" featured a mash up of original Pigeons Playing Ping Pong music, a tribute to the Talking Heads and a tribute to Cake. The title is clearly inspired by the Talking Heads' live album "Stop Making Sense" which may be one of the best live performances ever recorded.

Judging from the set lists of both bands posted on Instagram after the show, the choice is incredibly difficult. However, I think I would have to go the route of Stop Making Cake and Pigeons Playing Ping Pong. That being said, I am planning to see Lotus this Friday in Columbus, Ohio.
