Summerdance Oh my Goodness

Those of you that chose to read my last blog would know that I spent this last weekend, the long Labor Day weekend, at perhaps the best festival of the year: Summerdance. Summerdance, which is hosted by Lotus, features many different bands popular in the electronic jam band scene. The most popular of which, other than Lotus of course, is a group called Moon Hooch. Moon Hooch's biggest appeal is the fact that their band has three members, two of which play saxophones while one plays the drum set. The other band that opened before Lotus on Friday was called Start Making Sense. Start Making Sense is a Talking Heads tribute band that was named after the live album and video special that the Talking Heads created in 1984 called "Stop Making Sense".

However, as I said earlier, the real highlight of Summerdance was 8 p.m. through 11 p.m., Friday through Sunday. Each night, Lotus would perform two full sets over the three nights, with each seemingly better than the last. Although only comprised of five members, Lotus's ability to not only create a wall of intricate sound but their ability to improvise and jam for over nine hours over the weekend was phenomenal. On the second set of the second night, Lotus had a Dream Setlist Contest where fans could comment between six and nine songs, Lotus would pick fifteen sets for the base to then vote on, and then the top five vote-getters would receive a signed Summerdance 2019 poster and Lotus then picks one set to perform. The set that Lotus chose to perform Saturday night is as follows:

Modular Improv > 5 Petals Jam (Greet the Mind Tease) > Umbilical Moonset > Ambient Improv > Moonrise, Blacklight Sunflare > 1/2 time Drum & Bass Improv > Livingston Storm > (Greet the Mind Tease) >Blacklight Sunflare, Mikesnack > Greet the Mind

and Sunday night they were going to play:

Ambient atmospheric > bird jam > Lucid Awakening > 1/2 time > Futureworld, Mikesnack, Livingston Storm > Slow Cookin > Moonset > house minimal jam > Suitcases (No Intro), 128 > Synthless,
guitars only Jam) > Juggernaut > Jazz Jam > Umbilical Moonrise

However, there was a massive lightning storm in the middle of the second set where, by Ohio law, the concert had to stop for a half hour. However, Lotus, upon returning, played their "rain set" including a half hour long Livingston Storm > Sunrain > Livingston Storm > Sunrain (reprise) > Umbilical Moonrise. This was perhaps one of my favorite Lotus sets (although being the fifth time I've seen them and soaked by very cold rain) due to the fact that it was a special rainy set.
