Summerdance 2018

What did you do on Labor Day 2018? I had the absolute pleasure of attending a music festival in north eastern Ohio that featured an array of performances from bands like Pigeons Playing Ping Pong, Octave Cat, and the three day headliner Lotus. Located in Portage county, Nelson Ledges Quarry Park has a deep history among some of the only things to do within an hour from my home. Unfortunately, my home is now in Ada. and on Friday I drove for hours and hours just to camp in the woods for three days.

As probably guessed, the concert isn't the only thing to do while spending your time at the Quarry. Of course, patrons can also swim, hike, sunbathe, fish, scuba dive, and snorkel. There are many animals that are apart of the wildlife, like many waterfowl, turtles, frogs, and even nonpoisonous snakes.

Something particularly interesting about the actual concert is that Lotus, throughout the three days of music,  only had one song with lyrics. The rest of the music featured many guitars and pyrotechnics and was absolutely amazing and probably one of the best concerts I have ever been. However, I think the best thing about the park is the other people and how everyone is always looking out for someone else. I have such an image in my head of someone tipping a wheel barrow full of wood over and about three separate people ran out of the trees to help. Although Badfish (which is a Sublime tribute band headlining the concert) is full of a lot more rowdiness and will always hold a special place in my heart, I think Summerdance this past weekend opened my eyes to kind of experiences I can have with the people that I call my friends and is definitely a festival in which I will return.

  1. I have actually never listen to Lotus, but I am guessing it is kind of like a EDM band. I actually love EDM and have it on my bucket list to go to Tomorrowland and Electric Forrest. It sounds like you had a great time and that what my friends that go to those types of concerts say too. I can't wait to be able to go to a concert just like this one.
