Fall Break 2018
It's that time of year again—fall break for Ohio Northern University. This two day reprieve from the battlements and hardships of the semester allow for a small rest before the return makes everything harder. Tracing the last weekend, I haven't really done much of anything besides wash clothes and continue to write the monstrosity that is a midterm epistemology paper. Usually I enjoy writing and was super close to adding an English major rather than a public relations one. However, this paper may be the most boring thing I have ever written. It explores the nuances of the debate between internalism and externalism. These two stances are concerned with what constitutes knowledge, a response to the 1963 paper by Edmund Gettier which all but completely destroyed then modern philosophy. Previous to Gettier, it was assumed that all that was needed for a belief to be knowledge were three criteria. The first being that this belief must be true, the second being that this claim must be epistemically justified, and the third being that a subject must believe whatever is being asserted to be knowledge. If you've made it through that incredibly boring, incredibly concise explanation of the paper that ruined epistemology, then congratulations. It's hard for me to sit here and find the will (or the want) to finish something that's 25% of my grade for the class.
I have also been struggling with work over this break. I have had no relaxation-- even when I'm sitting around the assignments are always on my mind. I think it is so cruel that professors give us even more work to do when we have breaks. I know that for me I have twice the amount of work that I would have had for a normal week. It is just a reflection on how the rest of the semester will go I suppose.
ReplyDeleteI'm really sorry you have to write that paper. Good for you for actually working on it over fall break, though! I always tell myself I'm going to get so much done on my breaks, but that has yet to happen in my 2 years and 7 weeks of college thus far. Hopefully this break left you recharged and ready to go until Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteI can relate with you and the others this fall break was really rough. So much work to catch up on with how busy I have been this semester. It's been tough but I know can get through it. You can get through it too! Keep working hard and do the best you can!
ReplyDeleteYou are writing what all of us are thinking. It is getting to the time in the semester where I just tend to fall behind because I forget to do one thing. After that it just becomes a snowball effect of trying to find the motivation to get back on tract. Luckily, I am starting to get back in that groove.
ReplyDeleteI did not do any homework over fall break so good for you for actually doing something! This is the part of semester where everything seems to get 10x crazier. I could use another fall break honestly. Hopefully your paper and the rest of the semester will fly by.
